No Lifeguard

“. . . watch over . . .”

“The Lord keeps close watch over the whole world, to give strength to those whose hearts are loyal to him.” (II Chronicles 16:9)

What if the book of Genesis opened something like this? “In the beginning, when God created the universe . . . God looked at everything he had made, and he was very pleased . . . By the seventh day God finished what he had been doing and stopped working.” (Now for my addition) “Then God hung a huge sign on the moon.  The sign was so large that it’s message could be viewed with the naked eye from the earth.  The sign read, ‘Warning: No Lifeguard On Duty.'”

I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m thankful that, as the writer of II Chronicles reminds us, “The Lord keeps close watch . . .”  I pray that God will keep me mindful and thankful for divine watchfulness, and help me share God’s gift of strength that comes with loyalty to God.  How about you?
